Sales Archetype
Empathic Cultivator
You can feel an account cooling before anything shows up in the data.
The Empathic Cultivator notices the temperature change. A champion's replies get shorter. Someone stops being copied. The QBR has one fewer person in it than last quarter, and you knew what that meant before the renewal flag went up.
Account management rewards attention, and most of it goes to the numbers. Yours goes to the people, which is why you see a problem two months before it becomes a number.
Strengths
You know an account is at risk while there's still time to do something about it.
You can tell which stakeholder actually likes you and which one is being polite, and you plan around the difference.
You sense when a champion has lost internal standing, which the usage data will never show.
You're the first call when something goes wrong, because people would rather tell you than the support queue.
Blind Spots
You can absorb an account's anxiety and carry it into your own week.
You can read a slow reply as a signal when the person was just on vacation.
You can protect a relationship with someone who no longer has any influence over the renewal.
You can spend your attention where the feelings are hardest, not where the revenue is.
In the Deal
In a live deal, the Empathic Cultivator hears something off in a check-in call and raises it internally before the account has filed a single complaint. Six weeks later the save looks like luck. Nobody else in your company gets that warning — and the same sensitivity means you'll escalate three accounts that were fine, and spend the political capital you needed for the fourth.
Who You Sell Best To
Accounts where relationships determine renewal more than features do, and organizations going through change that people feel before they announce. You struggle in accounts run purely on procurement metrics, where nobody's feelings enter the decision.
Your Growth Edge
Every Empathic Cultivator has an account they knew was fine and worried about anyway. The signal you read is real and it's also noisy, and there's no way to tell a real cooling from a bad month without checking. The accounts that worry you most are rarely the biggest ones. They're the ones you care about.
The Tension
Empathy reads the account. Cultivating keeps you in it long enough to read it well. Neither instinct includes a threshold — nothing tells you which reading is worth acting on. A seller with less range would only notice the obvious signals, which is a crude filter but a filter. By Friday you've got six things you're keeping an eye on and no idea which one deserves Monday.
Often Mistaken For
Empathic Advisor Both read people well and both stay close. You use it to protect the account. The Advisor uses it to tell buyers things. If people come to you for your take rather than because you noticed something, the Advisor is closer.
