Sales Archetype
Authentic Cultivator
Your accounts know exactly where they stand with you.
The Authentic Cultivator won't run the QBR as theater. When the quarter was bad, you say it was bad. When the roadmap slipped, the customer hears it from you rather than from a release note, and the meeting is shorter and more useful than anyone expected.
Account management is full of managed optimism. Yours isn't, which costs you the comfortable meeting and buys you a customer who believes what you tell them.
Strengths
You deliver bad news yourself, before the customer finds it, which is why they trust the good news.
Your QBRs are short, because there's no performance in them.
You'll tell a customer they're not using the product well, which nobody else in the relationship will.
You say no to a request you can't deliver instead of taking it back to a roadmap that won't include it.
Blind Spots
You can deliver bad news to a room that needed it framed, and lose the point to the delivery.
You can be so allergic to spin that you undersell a genuine win.
You can volunteer a product weakness the customer wasn't thinking about.
You can skip the relationship-building meeting because it feels like theater, and lose access.
In the Deal
In a live deal, the Authentic Cultivator opens a renewal conversation by naming the two things that went wrong this year before the customer does. The renewal usually gets easier, not harder. Very few vendors will do that. The renewal gets signed. The executive stops taking your calls.
Who You Sell Best To
Technical customers and operators who can detect spin and resent it. Accounts that have been managed by someone polished and got burned. You struggle with executive stakeholders who want the relationship to feel good, and in political organizations where candor gets repeated in rooms you're not in.
Your Growth Edge
Being right and being heard have never been the same thing. A true thing held for two weeks is still true, and two weeks is often the difference between a customer hearing it and a customer defending against it. Waiting feels like the beginning of the thing you refuse to do.
The Tension
Authenticity says it now. Cultivating wants the account healthy long-term. Those almost never conflict, which is why you've never had to develop a sense of timing. Most of the time the blunt answer works. That's why the one time it doesn't is easy to miss.
Often Mistaken For
Authentic Advisor Both refuse to manage the message. You apply it to an account over time. The Advisor applies it to a decision in front of them. If your honesty shows up most when a buyer is choosing something, the Advisor is closer.
